ReplyDeleteIt may be that those events are connected with ancient Krakatau rather than the later event. I think it a little unlikely that the Javanese histories would be in error by a century..
The 536 and 540 CE dates seem to coincide with volcanoes in Mexico and Equador. Krakatau may have erupted in the same year but it is also possible that it erupted at the time recorded in the Javanese documents and caused an earlier catastrophe.
A parallel may be seen in the 1815 eruption of Gunung Tamboro that was not connected with events in Europe until revealed by correlation of research in the Twentieth Century. A bad year around 416 CE (or a few years earlier) would not have been connected with a volcano so far away.
